<p>Communication – the act of conveying information. We do this every day with the people around us. Whether it’s talking to somebody, reading or sending an e-mail or simply watching news on television, we all are sending and receiving information on a daily basis.</p>
<p>Though animals also have the ability to communicate to some extent, human ability to send and receive information is by far the most highly developed of all. One could say that because of superior human intellect over other forms of life, humans can convey their thoughts in much greater detail, allowing others to understand what’s going on in a person’s mind. Or maybe not?</p>
<p>Think of it this way. We’ve always believed that our power of speech and reasoning is the very reason why our ability to communicate is superior to that of other animals, and yet there are so many problems we face every day that arise out of misunderstandings and failure to communicate.</p>
<p>When a male cat (we will use cats as an example) marks his territory by spraying his scent, it sends out a loud and clear (and smelly) signal to other males out there saying “this territory is mine, if you want it, you’re going to have to fight me for it”. Other males respond by spraying their own scent as a challenge. And so they fight. The winner stays and the loser goes to try his luck out somewhere else.</p>
<p>Female cats leave their scents as a signal to males that “I’m available, come and find me”. Simple, and yet it gets the attention of every male in the vicinity.</p>
<p>Other animals communicate through sound and body language. While to humans it may sounds just like noise, to animals of the same species it could mean something we may never be able to comprehend. It is simple and straight to the point, exactly how effective communication is supposed to be.</p>
<p>With humans it is far more complex. While one could argue that our superior intellect and power of reasoning is what sets us apart in the animal world, it is our failure to communicate properly that often leads to many complications.</p>
<p>It is rather disappointing that beings with the highest intellect often are unable to express their thoughts to others in a loud and clear fashion. We even have to have seminars on communication skills to teach us how we should use our natural abilities in order to get the intended message across.</p>
<p>If only life was simple as that of simple animals, but then life as we know it wouldn’t be as colorful without all the misunderstandings and confusion.</p>

<p>It is vital to develop interpersonal communication skills in order to communicate effectively.  Whether speaking with your spouse, boss, customer, or co-worker, interpersonal communication skills are required in everyday life.  It doesn’t mean using words alone; it includes your body language, tone of voice, and even your pauses between words or sentences.</p>
<p>Aside from this, people also judge you based on your behavior.  It is important to know what type of communication is needed for each individual situation you are in.  The five parts of communication are Relational, Social (where the communication takes place), Mental (what your desires are for the communication taking place), Physical environment (classroom, location, noise level), and Cultural (what might be okay in your country may be offensive in another country).</p>
<p>In an Interpersonal Communication Training Course, you will learn how to recognize behavior, be aware of the situation, and how to get the response you want.  All of these will be addressed and you will learn what words and actions should be used for each individual situation.</p>
<p>With an Interpersonal Communication Training Course, you will be able to work more effectively with people.  Good interpersonal communication skills include; positive, supportive, and clear communication.  Don’t just waste time thinking, go ahead and do something about it.</p>
<p>I am often asked by students why the skills I teach are important as a Communications college professor.  A lot of what I present in the classroom relates to interpersonal skills.  These are both in the lives of the college students and his friends and family.</p>
<p>Many students take college coursework to prepare them for a professional career and it is important to realize that communication skills are easily transferable.  If you look at the job postings in the paper and online career search sites, the ONE skill required of almost every job is Good Interpersonal Communication Skills.  These are the same skills that set to be successful in marriage and at work.</p>
<p>The basic interpersonal communication skills are perception, intrapersonal communication, listening, language, emotions, non-verbal communication, self-disclosure, communication climate, conflict resolution, and others.  Being excellent in interpersonal communication will make you an excellent friend, spouse, employee, boss and co-worker.  You become excellent in this by learning them and putting them into practice as often as possible.</p>
<p>There are no born communicators.  We were all born with about the same capacity to speak and understand others.  But we all have to learn the skill part.</p>
